Denesuline Language Learning Using Dual Intelligence of Athabasca Learners.
Students in Northern Saskatchewan, Canada, enter school speaking their Denesuline language and live their culture. They bring with them prior linguistic and epistemological knowledge, and teachers are not always prepared to teach students who have dual intelligence. Students come with a rich culture, and linguist abilities and we as teachers, do not tap into this phenomenon. To deal with this issue, Father Megret Elementary school has taken on the challenge to teach Dene as a first language program (Immersion) to teach students from kindergarten to grade three. Prince Albert Grand Council, a second level service provider, takes on the role to offer pedagogical support for teachers.
