Enhancing Student Success within Whare Wānanga

The three Whare Wānanga in New Zealand provide a unique indigenous educational environment for Māori tertiary students and communities. This workshop will describe a current research project investigating “What are the unique features of a Wānanga experience that contribute to student success?”. An integrated methodological approach will be shared that seeks to build collaboration across the three Whare Wānanga, with a focus on giving voice to the experiences of staff and students engaged in the sector.
The intended outcomes of the project will be shared, and opportunities provided to discuss innovative ways potential learnings could be explored across indigenous communities.
