Ho‘oponopono as a Method to Combat the Political and Socioeconomic Changes of the Traditional Life of Native Hawaiians: Where We Were, Where We Are, and Where We Are Going

Hoʻoponopono is the traditional Hawaiian health practice that resolves conflicts between individuals, among families, and among community groups. Political and socioeconomic changes imposed by Euro-American contact has shifted the use of ho‘oponopono to the reliance of western methods of conflict resolution, compromising the traditional life and health outcomes of Native Hawaiians. This workshop aims to educate individuals about the history of Native Hawaiian health as a result of the political and socioeconomic changes, the role of ho‘oponopono in the past and today in Native Hawaiian Health, and future implementations of ho‘oponopono within the US Health Care System.
