Image-based Storytelling: Creating a Visual Narrative of the Self
Join Dene-artist Lisa Boivin for an arts-based-workshop that focuses on the needs of Indigenous students navigating the colonial academy. Lisa utilizes the Indigenous tradition of image-based-storytelling to encourage students and educators to be more reflexive in their daily practice. She opens this workshop with a visual-narrative by extracting Indigenous experience and perspective from images she has painted. Lisa then invites participants to reimagine and draw the academy as a functioning nation were every person exercises their role as a citizen. Participants will then be given time to create and share their visual-narratives of the self in the form of image-based-storytelling.
