Nā Wa`a Mauō marine monitoring program

The Nā Wa`a Mauō marine monitoring program uses nā wa`a (canoes) in near-shore marine monitoring efforts that support community engagememt, education, and science. We aim to perpetuate the practices of our ancestors by using Native Hawaiian practices, tools, and language in education, science, and resource management. Our facilitated discussion will bring together diverse groups of wa’a practitioners, scientists, and community members to share their love for wa’a, how they use wa’a to care for our oceans and communities, and how we can collectively work together throughout the Pacific to care for our ocean resources.
