Next Generation Science Standards in the Kaiapuni Classroom: Will teachers implement?

This presentation will examine the State of Hawaiʻi Board of Education’s Next Generation Science Standards policy and its implementation in Hawaiian language immersion classrooms in public Department of Education and Public Charter schools. The presentation will highlight salient points from a mixed-methodology research project that consisted of interviews with school principals and survey results from K-12 Hawaiian language immersion teachers from schools on Hawaiʻi, Oʻahu, Maui, Molokai, and Kauaʻi. The study focused on the knowledge, motivation, and organizational factors that could impact the policy’s implementation at the school level.
