No Stone Unturned…

This paper will present the initiative of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma to systematically search state by state to find collections with Choctaw ancestral human remains and their funerary items. This paper will outline our role as living descendents: advocate for our ancestors, the social injustice we face in consultation with institutions, and the importance of diligent research in finding collections. Case examples will be given on the spectrum of the Historic Preservation Department’s experience with this project and will focus on the healing that has come from lasting friendships built during repatriation efforts.
