Puʻuhonua (Places of Sanctuary): Empowering Incarcerated and Highly At-Risk Community Members to Grow Through Education
Are we providing our Native Hawaiian incarcerated and highly at-risk youth community members with opportunities to grow through higher education? In efforts to reduce recidivism, offer pathways to degree and/or certificate attainment, and build employability skills, Windward Community College’s Puʻuhonua program focuses on offering a proactive approach to empower students. This session will discuss the process and importance of creating rigorous and authentic collegiate experiences for the populations at WCCC, HYCF, and Olomana School. This workshop will cover specific, practical examples of collaboration and innovation between our college and our partnership with local incarcerated systems. Join us!
