Reclaiming Indigenous Knowledge One Collection At a Time: The Chahta Impona Database Creation
This workshop will share an important narrative in reclaiming Choctaw artisan knowledge for future research and education. Participants will be given examples of how the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma researches, documents artisan collections, builds relationships with institutions across the globe, and future plans for making the information accessible. Participants will understand both simple and complex ways to create a database with a demonstration on Proficio software. Discussion will include database options, stewardship of Indigenous knowledge, sharing knowledge with our communities, and sustainability.
