Ruralisation – Connecting hearts, minds, spirits and homelands through education

Ruralisation is a term coined to explain reversing the effects of urbanisation in Aotearoa New Zealand. Not just geographically but, intellectually and spiritually too. As we noticed more and more of our family being disconnected from our cultural heritage, our land, language and history, concern grew for our future generations. We decided something needed to be done to maintain the legacy of our family and our wider tribal connections. This workshop will share the ruralisation journey of a Māori family setting out our ruralisation vision, our practical strategies and our measures of success in maintaining our legacy. Throughout this workshop we will share why we wanted to do this (our why), where we started (it’s always hard to know where to start), how we got started (and maintained momentum) and who we started with.
