Te Mana o te Reo Tauira – Māori Student Voice, Māori Student Representation.

At the University of Waikato, the Māori student cohort is 24% of student population. While not all are actively engaged in student issues, awareness of student issues and representation is growing. The Māori student voice is given space within the hierarchy of the University and is highly valued in both Māori specific and mainstream forums. This presentation will examine how effective this voice can be by sharing examples where student voice has encouraged change but also discuss social and cultural challenges faced as representatives of this cohort.
