Tongikura Framework: Indigenous research from a whanau perspective
Indigenous methodologies requires research from an indigenous perspective. The challenge is acknowledging methodologies within the methodology. Kaupapa Māori has paved the way for validating a Māori research paradigm that provides legitimacy to indigenous ways of knowing. However what is Māori in Kaupapa Māori when there are a number of iwi, hundreds of hapū and thousands of whānau. How do we apply a macro homogenous methodology to a multifaceted people? Can we unpick a methodology without deconstructing the space hard won by indigenous academics? Tongikura framework considers these questions by taking kaupapa whānau and applying both Western and Indigenous methodologies.
